Move Berlim - Festival of contemporary Brazilian dance
“Move Berlim” has got Berlin dancing in amazement three times before; in 2003, 2005, and 2007. It explores the variety and roots of the young and energetic Brazilian dance scene away from the major centres, and shows the resurgence of this cultural nation after years under a military dictatorship.
Brazilian dance is brought to life by the regional roots and cultural heritage of Brazil’s citizens, and is based on the extreme realities of life there. After its re-democratisation, it took a while for explicitly political themes and radical workings of Brazil’s recent history and acute social break to resurface as themes in Brazilian dance production. The festival reinforces and encourages interest and understanding of this energetic dance scene with lectures, panel discussions, and workshops.
