Berlin Music Week

Berlin Music Week’s got a new Business-Platform concept and new Clubfestival

The Berlin Music Week will be nesting this year in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. This hot and happening neighborhood centers around the Spree’s Osthafen (Eastern-harbor), which is not only an urban architectural wonderland but also a hotbed for music production and music related start-ups and tech. As a happy consequence, in this “kiez” some of the cities best club, pubs, and bars are all within a stone’s throw of one another.

Drawing on the experience of our first two years in development, and working to support the vision that the music protagonists in Berlin are already living, Berlin Music Week is embedding itself into this city-central (and sleepless) neighborhood, where music is created and celebrated the whole year ‘round. We are honored to offer a communicative and organized framework for local, regional, and international music partner activity from September 5-9, 2012 in the Osthafen area, and with one clear and simple registration and ticketing structure.

At “real Berlin prices”, the new club festival concept offers music fans a party program of the newest, hottest worldwide talent: 1 neighborhood, 3 days, 15 locations. Berlin’s best promoters and party presenters are in it together, to ensure that not one ticket holder goes home without a serious music buzz. Other noteworthy happenings during this year’s Berlin Music Week: radioeins will be celebrating its 15 year anniversary with an exclusive gala concert accompanied by Babelsberger Filmorchester, and ARD will be hosting the New Music Award, which in previous years, was bestowed upon the likes of Bonaparte, Kraftklub and Captain Capa.

Word on Sound, is where to go to hear about where it’s at…

From Wednesday thru Friday, the new B2B experience takes place, and it’s not about buying and selling square meters at a trade fair... It’s called Word on Sound, and it’s Berlin Music Week’s professional development and exchange forum for music protagonists and curious creatives. Programming and partners of Word on Sound facilitate discourse on music and all that it inspires: live events, film, art, fashion, dance, academics, community, political action, and of course, digital and analog commerce. Our digital/interactive platform, the digi-digi con, for example, is actually a (mostly) virtual experience. This digital, digital conference is wrapped in a custom interface, pre-loaded with curated content that can be accessed from anywhere starting September 5th, and is supplemented by live streaming presentations during the course of Berlin Music Week. The physical digi-digi con space will also include workstations and hosted hospitality areas to connect with the “nerdcore cosmopolite” of the digital realm.

Festival of Festivals

Berlin Music Week will wrap the week up with a real mother lode of music on September 7th and 8th courtesy of the Berlin Festival at Tempelhof and its late night daughter program, Club X-berg. Tasty treats like Bonaparte, Franz Ferdinand, Friendly Fires, Tocotronic, Kraftklub, Sigug Rós, Little Dragon, Paul Kalkbrenner and other high-caliber acts are already confirmed.

(Information on tickets and other highlights can be found at www.berlinfestival.de.) And for those who still haven’t had enough… there’s a surprise concert planned for Sunday the 9th at o2 World.

A club give-away

And for those who always wanted to throw a party at someone else’s expense, the Berlin Music Week has a secret stash set aside for the taking: Until April 30th, ideas and concepts for an event, party, concert, or showcase by artists, promoters, and labels will gladly be accepted for review. The best evening/concept, will be included in the club festival program and paid for by Berlin Music Week. Send your mails by April 30th to: info@berlin-music-week.de
