The 31st Long Night of Museums on the 25th of August, 2012 ushers in the festivities for “775 Years Berlin”—the city anniversary. These events reach their height on October 28, 2012 with an all-out celebration in the historical Mitte city center. During these two months, the city’s medieval founding will be made visible around the Muhlendamm Bridge (Mühlendammbrücke). Berlin’s fascinating immigration history will be captured vividly at the Schlossplatz (“Palace Square”). And the anniversary celebrations of 1937 and 1987 will both be seen retrospectively in an open-air exhibition near St. Mary’s Church (Marienkirche).
In this specific Long Night, each museum will address the multivalent history of Berlin in its own distinct way. Guided tours, literary and musical programs, and small special exhibits draw the guests into an often not so dark founding era in the Dark Ages. What will be shown is the overwhelming influence of immigrants in all spheres of daily life, and what is implicitly and modestly asked is what has made this city so attractive for eight hundred years.

Each ticket provides entrance to all participating houses between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. and access to official shuttle buses and local public transport (S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram, and bus) from 3 p.m. until the next morning at 5 a.m.

Entrance is free for children up to 12 years of age
Children, students, apprentices/trainees, unemployed workers, Hartz-IV beneficiaries, civil service and military personnel, pensioners, and the disabled receive the concession price upon presentation of appropriate ID. Reduced tickets cannot be obtained at S-Bahn and BVG service machines or by internet.
