The SCHAUBUDE BERLIN is the main venue for puppet, figure and object theatre in Berlin, founded in 1993 by the city’s Senate.
The SCHAUBUDE BERLIN is the only theatre in Berlin specialized in guest performances of Berlin, national and international puppetry and object theatre.
The house on Greifswalder Straße continuously presents numerous forms of enjoying art – in the evenings for young people and adults and during the day for children.
The SCHAUBUDE BERLIN offers a wide range of both classical and experimental performances, living on the artistic expression of playing with the things – the puppet, the object, the material…
The SCHAUBUDE BERLIN regularly puts on Festivals such as the International Festival of the young puppet, figure and object theatre »VERSUCHUNG«, an international forum for young artists. Furthermore the SCHAUBUDE BERLIN has been participating in co-productions, has initiated and headed numerous thematic events, special guest performances as well as various symposia.
The SCHAUBUDE BERLIN is the venue for puppeteers from Berlin as well as for national and international artists of this genre. Every year the SCHAUBUDE BERLIN offers a space for the »Tage der Hochschule«, an important forum for the students of the Berlin Theatre Academy »Ernst Busch«, department for Puppetry, to show their work and to open the space for artistic discussion.
A significant part of the theatre’s work is dedicated to maintaining partnerships to various institutions such as FITZ! Zentrum für Figurentheater Stuttgart; Deutsches Forum für Figurentheater und Puppenspielkunst ev. Bochum; Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart – Studiengang Figurentheater; Deutsches Forum für Figurenspiel und Puppentheater e.V. Bochum as well as our partner schools, the Erika-Mann-Grundschule in the district of Wedding and the Bouché-Grundschule in the district of Treptow (TUSCH – Theatre and Schools) and the Kindergarten Wirbelwind in the district of Weißensee (TuKi - Theatre and Kindergarten).
