Transmediale is one of the most important international festivals for art and the creative use of digital media. It presents new and important ventures in digital culture and provides impetus for reflection over the role of digital technology in today’s society. The festival has been funded by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (federal foundation for culture) since 2005 as one of their key artistic highlights.

At the House of World Cultures, from 1st- 6th February, transmediale.11 FUTURITY NOW! explored how internet evolution, global network practice, open source methodologies, sustainable design and mobile technology form new cultural, ideological and political templates.

The Swede Kristoffer Gansing has been appointed as Artistic Director of the 2012 transmediale in Berlin. Gansing will replace Stephen Kovats in this role, who is moving on to new projects following the 2011 transmediale.
