re:place 2007
Second International Conference on the Histories of Media, Art, Science and Technology.
15.11.2007 - 18.11.2007
In cooperation with the “Haus der Kulturen der Welt”.
The growing spread of media art has drawn increasing attention to historical and interdisciplinary research and thinking concerning art, science, and technology. At the interdisciplinary forum re:place 2007 over 70 scientists and artists from all over the world presented their research on the historical interaction between technology, science, and art. The conference title 're:place' refers to the central focus of the event, namely the location and migration of knowledge and knowledge production in the twentieth century. During the 10 lecture panels and the poster presentations this theme is highlighted in a series of 'Place Studies', looking at particular historical instances and settings. Special attention will be given to alternatives to the 'Western' historical paradigms through presentations about art-science relations in the former Soviet Union, Africa, and Latin America. The conference includes general forum discussions on interdisciplinary research strategies, as well as keynote lectures by Lorraine Daston, Siegfried Zielinski, and others.
